ISLANDS IN TIME

Raindrops falling through
The center of time
Blocking the view
Seems Ithaca is a long way off
Troy long since lost
Alice keeps her hopes alive
She sees the White Rabbit
Staring in at her
From just the other side
Hoping for a glimpse
At the penetrating gaze of the Odalisque
Hiding near center stage
Just as Ophelia passes through
And a face from the past
An icon of a decade of change
Slowly fades from view
Lost between the lines
Of last night's news
As baby kissers
And lesser knowns
Stalk the hallways of thought
A wayward hand floating
Above cerulean absurdities
Crimes and misdemeanors
They all seem to be melting
Blending into one repetition
With constant competition
Streaming in from all angles
While meanings go on floating
Down a curious stream
Where Billy The Kid waves a fond farewell
As Calamity Jane hugs Belle Starr
She's off once again
To where ships once rolled
Across the barren land
Hoping to reboard the dream train
She heard it might be passing that way
It was there once before
Somehow she couldn't find the key
Seems it was just under the door
Next to wishes and thoughts
Rolled up and lost
