PYRAMIDS IN THE MIST

Echos of gunfire vanishing
Galloping sounds no longer falling
Upon ears unable to hear
And pyramids in the mist appear
Then disappear behind the Ace of Spades
Numbers counting and misread
Pale cadmium yellow surrounding
Exotic places remembered by Gauguin
Even though he's no longer there
Lately he's been seen
Rolling though the thin air
Floating with such ease
Just beneath the Northern Lights
Some say he's up all night
Tumbling sideways
Across the shoreline of memories
A road sign masking truth and reality
Between games of chance
And destiny
Which go swirling by
Trapped within
A dreamscape of ether
As the child inside the mind remembers
Like hieroglyphics
Traced high upon the wall
While symbols and metaphors collide
And the Egyptian Princess hides
Just inside the line
Where Pat Garrett tries to find
Billy the Kid and his hiding place
Somewhere hidden
Right behind Mona Lisa's face
Where headlines and datelines conceal
Pale blue eyes seaching the view
Through clouds and such
Off in the distance
The Vagabond Thief floats by
On the road again
Bringing back memories
Of those pyramids in the mist
