BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

Faces hidden beneath ivory black
Headlines laid to rest
Beneath cerulean mist
Figures twisted Francis Bacon style
Numbers ten and eleven
Following the stairway to heaven
Floating above Mother Nature
Once again on the run
While Mona Lisa hides her eyes
Just beneath the stars and stripes
And the Father of Invention fades
Behind the final charade
His fifteen minutes of fame
They came and went
Too bad Andy can't be here
To help send him up
Those songs to Drelia
Ring so true
Legacies and fantasies
Both left hanging on the wall
While down by the dock
Captain Ahab unties the bow line
Singing of lost sailors
And those left behind
Trying to catch the wind
Hoping to unwind
Mysteries and fantasies
Woven by Diana
While floating upon
The ever changing sea
As Adam Smith smiles gleefully
And Billy the Kid stares
At Mona Lisa smiling
Wondering about her thoughts
Hidden behind her eyelids
Focused upon the distance horizon
Bathed in dull cadmium fading
Only minutes from hallways
And dull mediocrity
Seeking voices of escape
On the run
