Sideways glances
Half remembered stares
Recalling numbers and words
Childhood rhymes
Voices singing
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for girls
And four for boys
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for secrets
Never to be told
As distant dreams reappear
Like a train returning
Through the white mist
Where all thoughts go to hide
Hoping to return one day
When all else has been tried
Fair Juliet vanished
Like the wind
Just the sound of the pendulum
Swinging in arc-like fashion
Measuring pauses
Forward and back
Momentary advantages
Even counterattacks
Verbal sparring
And the aftermath
Floating images as metaphors
Dreamscapes just like before
Staring beyond the Looking Glass
Following the White Rabbit
Through that opening in Time
Seeing childlike hieroglyphics
Long forgotten
And laid away
Coming to light
On an empty day
Bringing back smiles
And a reasib
For all the miles
