HOLY ALLIANCE
A total eclipse of the heart
Someone sung in words long ago
Cassandra sitting upon the half shell
Like Bottecelli's Venus
Her hair tosseled by a hidden wind
Her eyes focused on what had been
And the celestial roulette wheel
Spinning wildly once again
Off in the distance
Doc Holiday runs
Hoping to catch the midnight sun
Slowly setting behind a cerulean hourglass
As the splintered remains of the OK Corral
Float violently down
While the final gunshot echos
Across the vacant streets
Of a half remembered town
Somewhere up the coast
Where a quiet table waits
Alone in a darkened corner
So much at stake
As the minutes roll by
And visions through openings
In the sky
Reveal frozen landscapes
Drifting away into the silence of the distance
Words of union capturing a white sentinel
Whose eyes stare out like question marks
While the moon exchanges places
With Cleopatra's golden eyes
Searching newsprint deserts
Trying to finalize
Bits and pieces of the jigsaw puzzle
Floating inside her questioning mind
While curious cupids huddle in the corner
Hoping once again to use their arrows
